HELI HIKES

4WD transportation from accommodation to the start of the walk and return by helicopter is available on the following hikes:

Waihaha River Hike
See "Full Day Hikes". After enjoying your picnic lunch at the Waihaha hut, return to Taupo by helicopter including a 45 minute scenic flight.

Lake Rotopounamu Hike
Hike same as above, see "Half Day Hikes. Your return trip can be by helicopter for a 45 minute scenic flight back to Taupo.

Waipakahi Hike
Transfer to this hike is via helicopter with a 45 minute scenic flight over Lake Taupo and the Tongariro World Heritage National Park. 5 hour high country bush hike with stunning views over the surrounding mountainous area and back towards mountains of Ruapehu, Tongariro and Ngauruhoe. The hike finishes at the Tongariro River where you will then travel back by 4WD to Taupo via Turangi and the eastern shores of Lake Taupo.

Kaimanawa Forest Park
4WD transfer your accommodation to the start of the hike in the Kaimanawa forest park. From here you hike to Te Iringa and onto the Oamaru hut. This is a very pretty hike through Beech forest and offers some excellent fishing along the way for the experienced fly fisherman. The duration of this adventure is approximately a 5 hour hike not including the transfer time. On completion of the hike, the helicopter will meet you and transfer you back to Lake Taupo.
